Most people go to the gym to focus on fitness and health. Unfortunately there are some members who feel like they're in their own personal playground. You know the type: from the grunters to the hoverers to those that never quit talking. Going to the gym to endure lack of respect is not what you signed up for.

Be a Rule Follower

Fitness establishments have their own set of written and unwritten rules.  Know the rules, and follow them.

Good Gym Etiquette

Good gym etiquette means being thoughtful of others who share your gym - whether they work out at the same time as you, or come in after.

make your workout enjoyable

Do These Things

  • Wear gym appropriate clothing
  • Wipe down equipment when you are done
  • Pick up after yourself - put equipment away in the right place
  • Respect personal space
  • Respect everyone's time
  • Be mindful of your surroundings
  • Keep cell phone conversations and loud music private
  • Exercise good hygiene by wearing deodorant and clean odor free clothes
  • Selfies - try to be discreet about them
  • Help others out - befriend people when you can
  • Above all - be kind and considerate 

Do Not Do These Things

  • Do not go to the gym when sick
  • Do not shower without flip-flops
  • Do not spit in the drinking fountain
  • Do not show off
  • Do not drop weights on the floor
  • Do not sing out loud
  • Do not stare - it's creepy
  • Do not use equipment for anything but exercising
  • Do not hog equipment
  • Do not pressure someone into giving up equipment
  • Do not wear perfume or cologne
  • Do not correct people on their form
  • Do not take long showers
  • NBBOB (no bare butts on benches)
